I knew 200+ artifacts was a lot - but MAN I was seriously delusional to think I could pump out the descriptions and analysis for them all in a quick fashion.

I am almost at a point where I can leave the clothing chapter alone (and leave it until first submission).  Thankfully, it is one of the biggest and most detailed chapters.  Knock on wood, the rest will go faster in edits and completing the few unfinished items that I had set on the back burner.

Back to writing.

I always come back to Livejournal and try to find a reason to write....

Working on my thesis has eaten up a large portion of my time (as it should) but one thing that has been a potential distraction are all the projects around the house.  Besides the "need to be done" list, there are the "would make for nice upgrades" items on the list.

For example, we have 2 small full baths and a guest bath that is pretty much the same size (except no tub/shower) - finding a way to update those so they are at least NICE tiny bathrooms would make up for the fact that my husband and I have to fight for the single sink in the master bathroom.

I think I will use this space to plot out projects, ideas and show the before and after pictures as things are done.

#1 on the long list is the guest room, which is 98% stripped of paint and needs to be primed and painted.  Finishing that room would open up a TON of storage, make the house feel bigger and allow us to move on to any other of the multitude of rooms that need attention.

The first thing on the small list is to re-insulate the outdoor water pipes, since one froze in the ridiculously cold weather since only an inch of it was exposed to the weather.  Hopefully no damage was done before I took the heat gun to it and wrapped old shirt-rags around it.  Shutter replacement (after buying a new one) and dealing with the siding and exterior painting that needs to take place are also high on the list.  Outside of the house gets the first "small list" attention I think.

So, I had a good weekend visiting with Tom in San Antonio - I miss it there, I really do.

Also? SO much to do this week - poster for shipwreck weekend needs to come together from its pieces, have 2 dive training sessions (thursday and coming Sunday) and no regulator yet.  Need to arrange for First Aid/CPR certification training.   Need to work on 3 papers and get one done by next monday (3 of 20 pages done >_<).

Not to mention a flotilla of work, my normal classes, and all sorts of other things (such as a pending scholarship app deadline I am litrally upagainst the wall trying to get out in time by the 15th).

Going to be a "fun" week....and by fun I mean dear god, dear god shoot me now.

At least I got Tom, and will see him again in 2 weeks.  He's consistently my sanity in the crazy times.

Today has turned out very well so far. The first estimate on replacing the french door frame was delayed but called, so that's not an issue. Plus kitties have become much calmer/better behaved and cuddly since they have me around for once.

Gotten laundry started, cleaned up some of the residual dust from paint stripping (need to remember to clear out the kitchen/dining room when that resumes) and I remembered my good buys yesterday!

So - my vacation payout with my final paycheck was $1400...holy cow!!! I forgot how much more this position paid for time off, and I hardly used any of it, on top of earning more than I did at ITS. So, I stopped by Thrift Town to window shop...and found 2 things I'd wanted FOREVER. This extra cash means I can put my WHOLE paycheck towards grad school and use the vacation amount to pre-pay my car insurance, clear off this month's credit card grocery/gas bill and even cover my rent for August with deposit. So, here are the small splurges I got at Thrift Town.

The finds! )

Back to tidying up now! I shall plot the first pasta dough as well...bwahaaha.

A bit ago, I discovered while weather stripping minor gaps, that our back door was not set right. Rather, the frame seems to have settled, since on one side I can get my entire hand almost under the rubber. You can't see light without pushing, but there is no seal.

It poured today...Tom brought his folks to our house to discover a 3 ft radius puddle into the dining room from the door.

Thankfully, I had JUST spent all last night cleaning that area up from all the boxes and junk save for some plastic bags and mostly waterproof goodwill pile.

Looks like the door is more of an issue than just letting large garden ants occasionally wander in to be killed by the cats.

Unless the issue is just replacing the bottom jamb, this may be a job we hire someone to do for us...until then, towels on the door frame. Its tile, nothing was destroyed, and we needed the rain. So, I'm actually not to stressed about this, just *sighing* at the level being worse than expected.

Your result for The Steampunk Style Test...

The Explorer

You are the Explorer, the embodiment of steampunk’s adventuring spirit. For you, clothing should be rugged and reliable, and just as functional as it is attractive. You probably prefer khaki or leather, and your accessories are as likely to include weapons as technological gizmos. You probably wear boots and gloves, and maybe a pith helmet. Most of what you wear is functional, and if you happen to wear goggles people had better believe that you use them. In addition to Victorian exploration gear, your outfit probably includes little knickknacks from your various travels. Above all, you are a charming blend of rugged Victorian daring and exotic curiosity.

I have an apartment!!!

Rather, the 5th year, Yugoslavian, Economics PhD student I was in touch with as a possible room mate has an apartment, and she emailed to ask if I still wanted to room with her!

I DO!

Its kinda unnerving to just share a house with someone I don't know, but when I am so close to school starting with no where to live, I'm willing to risk it. Besides, the vast majority of my roomies as an undergrad didn't work out so well, but I survived. It's about time for good room mate karma.

Plus, its going to be around $310/mo for my living expenses and that includes internet and water. Electricity is separate, but we can work that out to be split as well.

You have NO idea how much this drops my current stress level. None.

Plus, she could be really cool - a Yugoslavian Economist in her final year? She'll be busy, and that should help me be more productive as well.

So you always wanted to be a rock star, huh?

1 - Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Random quotations: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

If you want to do this again, you'll hit refresh to generate new quotes, because clicking the quotes link again will just give you the same quotes over and over again.

3 - Go to flickr's "explore the last seven days" http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Put it all together, that's your debut album.
